Toyota Falls 4% on Gloomy Outlook

Toyota offered flat unit sales outlook for the current fiscal year and net income is expected to decline 25%.
Toyota Motor fell in New York trading after it lowered its estimate of sales and earnings for the current fiscal year. For the fiscal year 2008 revenue rose 9.8% and earnings gained 4.5%. Toyota estimates unit sales in the current fiscal year of 8.87 million units compared to 8.69 million units in the year completed in March 2008.

JFE Holdings Profit Declines 12.6%

Operating income slumped 2.1% to 502 billion yen from 513 billion yen a year ago on rising raw material costs.
Japan’s second biggest steel-maker JFE Holdings net sales in the crude steel business rose to 34.27 million tons on strong demand from domestic manufacturing and exports of high-end products. Net sales in the engineering business gained to 31.42 billion yen as sales to the private sector improved.

Declining Shipments Drag Sega Sammy’s Profit

Profit fell 15.4% on weak shipments in Pachinko, Pachislot, Amusement Machines and Amusement Facilities coupled with sluggish domestic demand.
Sega Sammy slashed its November net income forecast for the full year through March as shipments and domestic sales are anticipated to decline. Net income fell to 15.7 billion yen from 49.3 billion yen a year ago. Net sales slid to 342 billion yen from 404.2 billion a year earlier.

Inpex Revises Earnings Outlook

Rising oiil and gas prices helped Inpex to lift its sales and earnings outlook for the fiscal year.
Inpex Holdings reported a net sales rise of 17.6% in the nine months to December 31st of 857 billion yen from 729 billion yen realized in the year ago period as sales volumes of both gas and Brent crude oil rose. In the nine-month period, net income jumped 9.6% from 107 billion yen realized a year ago to 117 billion yen. Inpex oil revenues climbed 23% from a year ago in the nine months to December 31st to 556 billion yen on a 4.4% increase in sales volumes from 60,444 Mbbl to 63,127 Mbbl.

JAL Profits on Price Hikes, Routes Refocus

JAL carried 10 million international and 31 million domestic passengers but revenue per kilometer fell 4.4%.
Japan Airline looks for profitable revenues in flights between Japan and other Asian destinations including China, Korea, and regional countries. JAL added more cargo and passenger flights to Asia and rationalized flights to the North American destinations. Japan’s largest airline said third quarter operating revenues fell 4.4% to 558.2 billion yen a year ago. Revenues rose 1% on 5.6% price hikes.

Emerging Markets Sales Lift Isuzu’s Profit

Quarterly profit advanced 21.9% as sales on the domestic market and exports increased by 24.2% to 256 billion yen.
Japan''s largest truck maker Isuzu said that third quarter sales revenue increased 28.5% to 430 billion yen as export shipments grew to 6,000 units from 5,000 units a year ago and Middle East and Africa climbed to 15,000 units from 11,000 units last year. Net income increased 2.5% from a year ago to 244 billion yen in the quarter ended December 31st.

Mazda’s Profit Rises 6.9% on Sales Growth

Nine months profit rose 6.9% as sales increased 9.5% to 2.5 trillion yen from 2.2 trillion yen a year ago.
Japan''s fifth-largest automaker said that despite the retail volumes decline of 3.6% to 175,000 units in Japan caused by falling demand, volumes in North America rose 8.6% as sales of CX-9 and Mazda 3 increased. Net income rose to 45 billion yen from 42 billion yen a year ago. Mazda maintained its full-year profit forecast of a 15% jump to 85 billion yen.

Mitsubishi Heavy Nine-Month Profit Up 41%

The quarterly profit increase was led by strong sales in the Mass and Medium-Lot Manufactured Machinery, especially in Europe and Asia.
Net income increased to 54.2 billion yen ($508 million) in the nine months ended Dec. 31 from 38.5 billion yen a year ago. Sales climbed 4% from a year earlier to 2.13 trillion yen led by 30% sales growth in Asia and 26% in North America. The company lifted its full-year net income forecast to 60 billion yen from 54 billion yen and the operating profit estimate to 130 billion yen from 115 billion yen.

Mitsubishi Estate Nine-Month Profit Drops 13%

Net profit for the latest quarter was 43.5 billion yen, down from 50.1 billion yen a year ago.
Quarterly operating profit dropped 16.6% to 92.2 billion yen. Revenue declined by 20.5% to 485 billion yen after the sale of the company’s real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield. The performance of the company’s core building management business continued to improve, thanks to the higher land prices in Japan. The company sees fiscal 2008 net profit at 85 billion yen, operating profit of 169.5 billion yen and revenue of 789 billion yen.

Emerging Markets Lift Toyota’s Profit 7.5%

Quarterly profit rose 7.5% buoyed by strong sales in North America, Asia, Latin America and Africa.
Despite the increase in quarterly profit the company issued a cautious outlook due to the US economy concerns and the stronger yen. Net income rose to 458 billion yen vs. 426 billion yen a year ago. Net revenue added 9.2% to 6.7 trillion yen on strong vehicle sales in Japan and in overseas markets, especially in North America and in Asia.
