Sales in Japan in the period remained flat at 656 billion yen, while sales in North America fell 2% to 713 billion yen and in Europe rose 4% to 261 billion yen. Net income for fiscal 2008 is expected to decline 50% to 66 billion yen from a year ago. |

Also semiconductor sales for digital AV equipment and game consoles fell 2.8% at 32.1 billion yen. Sales in Japan, the U.S. and Europe fell 4.4% to 89.1 billion yen, 19.3% to 12.3 billion yen and 1.3% to 300 billion yen respectively. |

| Japan’s biggest bank by market value, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group’s bad loans and provisions increased to 141.7 billion yen on deteriorating conditions in the financial markets. Losses and write downs on equity holdings however eased to 10.1 billion yen from 41.7 billion in the year-ago period. At the end of June, the lender had 3.41 trillion yen in securitized assets. It is forecasted that profit in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2008 will remain unchanged at 640 billion yen. |

The company expects that operating income in the fiscal year will rise by 21.7 billion yen to 830 billion yen. |

Sony sees operating income up 20% to 450 billion yen this fiscal year on a 1% gain in revenue to 9 trillion yen. |
